Anna Vala Ólafsdóttir was born in Reykjavík, Iceland. At the age of 8 she had her first cello lesson and continued having lessons for the next 13 years. When she was 14, Anna Vala joined a choir which eventually led to the first singing lesson. Before long she knew she wanted to become a singer.
Anna Vala completed her bachelor studies of classical singing and pedagogy at the Conservatory of Utrecht, where she had lessons with Karin van der Poel and Dobrinka Yankova. She gained her master's degree at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg in 2017, where she studied with Xenia Meijer and Sinan Vural. Anna Vala's passion for early music brought her to Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel where she followed Advanced Vocal Ensemble Studies, a two year master's programme, specialising in ensemble singing of Italian and English secular music, under the guidance of Evelyn Tubb and Anthony Rooley. Anna Vala graduated from Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in April 2018.
Anna Vala specialises in the performance of early music and also enjoys performing 20th century and contemporary music. She is a founding member of four ensembles. Besides singing, Anna Vala also plays the cello with Tourlou. Dellingr Duo consists of voice and lute and performs renaissance, baroque and early classical music.
